What We Offer

Founded on the Aboriginal traditional lands and drawing on the Good Samaritan charism, St Michael’s Catholic Primary School, Nowra is a respectful, inclusive and compassionate community where faith and virtue inspire quality lifelong learning for all.

We ensure each student is provided with experiences that nurture their individual learning, in an environment that is inclusive, supportive and challenges them to reach their full potential.

The Catholic Experience

St Michael's is committed to the development of the whole child. In a spirit of partnership with parents and the parish of St Michael's, the school promotes the demonstration of Gospel values. Our Religious Education is the focus of all our Key Learning Areas and aspects of school life at St Michael's

In the spirit of our school motto, 'Faith and Virtue', we aim for students to know and love God in a caring and supportive environment. Our pastoral care programs focus on building relationships across the community and helping students to communicate openly, solve problems and become more resilient. In each of our endeavours, we acknowledge the person of Jesus Christ as our role model and as our inspiration.

Enhancing Learning

We are called to engage all students with quality learning experiences that recognise diversity and optimise every student’s academic potential and life opportunity. Our talented staff draw on the latest educational research to nurture every child’s individual learning, and ensure their life at school has the best possible beginning. We ensure children are prepared for the future right from the start. We aim to build successful learners with a focus on learning how to learn. Our school also has many supports available:

  • Good Samaritan Centre – a small group of students from Years 3-6 needing explicit and targeted instruction in Literacy and Numeracy
  • Benedictine Centre – providing quality learning opportunities for those students in the younger grades who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Targeted Teaching – explicit instruction to a small group of students in Year 3 and 5 needing further support
  • A range of programs and support for Diverse Learning Needs

Social Justice Initiatives and Other Social Awareness

SMN Mission Day

At St Michael's we assist students to work towards their full potential spiritually, physically, socially, intellectually and emotionally. We promote our school as God's Place – a place of belonging, respect, justice, hope, celebration, and quality teaching and learning.

Our school has many social justice and social awareness opportunities for students to participate with their peers. These include:

  • Year 6 Mini Vinnies – to help raise money for our local St Vincent de Paul organisation
  • Environment Group – to look after our vegetable garden that provides fresh vegetables to our canteen
  • Chicken Coop Group – the students collect eggs to give to the parish as well as maintaining the coop
  • Community involvement – excursions and incursions for the environment, including recycling
  • Annual School Fair – to raise money that enhances the school environment
  • Mission Day – where Year 6 provide activities for the students to participate in that raises money for the nominated Catholic Mission for that year.

A Quality Education at an Affordable Price

230919 NOWRA 90

Catholic schools strive to keep fees as low as possible so that more families can choose a Catholic education for their children.

In keeping with Gospel values, no child is refused a Catholic education due to financial inability or difficulty. New or existing parents who find themselves in this situation are encouraged to discuss fee concessions with the school principal who will treat the situation with understanding, sensitivity and confidentiality. It is the expectation that families with the capacity to contribute do so, so that our schools can maintain the high quality of education that Catholic education is known for and our families expect.
